Purpose of this educational program

The theology course is based on theoretical immersion in the following disciplines:

  1. Historical: the history of the emergence and development of religion, religious canons and covenants, rules of tradition and holidays, fasts, ancient culture, medieval culture, religious associations, the role of Orthodoxy or religion in modern society, etc.
  2. Philosophical questions: questions of being, material and immaterial entities, faith and religion, etc.
  3. Philology: the study of Church Slavonic, ancient Greek, languages, Russian language and culture of speech, etc.
  4. Law: political movements in the religious environment, legal aspects of church activity
  5. Temple art: liturgics, biblical studies, chanting, prayer books, church services and rituals, etc.
  6. General basic/specialized subjects: mathematics, social studies, economics, foreign language, literature, ethics, etc.

Advantages of this study program:

  • Students receive training in the field of Orthodox theology, the culture of Orthodoxy, state-church relations, gain experience in using theological knowledge for spiritual and moral development and conducting interdisciplinary research, skills in researching theological texts, as well as teaching the basics of Orthodox culture, organizing interfaith dialogue.
  • The main disciplines of the professional cycle are biblical studies, patrology, dogmatic theology, liturgical theology, moral theology, comparative theology, and the history of the Russian Orthodox Church.
  • The main disciplines of the religious studies cycle: history of religions, philosophy of religion, phenomenology of religion, anthropology of religion, religious psychology, state legislation on religious organizations.
  • Extensive humanitarian and fundamental philosophical training allows graduates to work in all fields of activity related to religious organizations, as well as to continue studies in such master's degree programs as Philosophy, Theology, and Sociology.
  • Academic trainings take place at: Institute of Philosophy and Socio-Political Sciences, Rostov-on-Don Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.

🕊️Equipping students for global citizenship. From politics and art to science and war, the study of religion opens a gateway to understanding the world around us. Religious literacy is key to global citizenship in the 21st century.

Graduates of the program will be able to work in the field of educational, cultural, educational, organizational, methodological, media activities of Orthodox religious organizations, in municipal and state institutions interacting with religious organizations.

Graduates also have the opportunity to continue their studies at the SFedU Master's degree in Philosophy and then at the postgraduate course in Philosophy, Ethics, Religious Studies.
