The participants of the meeting were also rectors of Iranian universities interested in expanding research and educational contacts with Russian universities and heads of higher educational institutions of Russia.

The focus was on issues of Russian-Iranian academic cooperation: staff and student exchanges, joint research programs in different areas.

Currently Southern Federal University is actively pursuing partnerships with universities in Iran. For example, the University already has an experience of cooperation with University of Tehran, University of Isfahan, Shahid Beheshti University.
