The IV International Scientific and Practical Conference of Undergraduates, Postgraduates and Young Scientists and the XVIII International Academic Internet Readings were held at the SFedU

From April 25 to 26, the IV International Scientific and Practical Conference of Undergraduates, postgraduates and young Scientists "Language and translation in the context of intercultural communication" was held: topical issues and modern aspects" and the XVIII International Academic Internet Readings "Philology, Intercultural Communication and Translation in the XXI century".

The conference was held in a hybrid format within the framework of the Science Week 2024 of the Southern Federal University. The event was organized by the International Institute of Interdisciplinary Education and Ibero-American Studies of the Southern Federal University.

In his welcoming speech to all those present, Pavel Makhno, Vice-Rector for Educational Activities and Information Technologies of SFedU, noted the importance of the conference as a platform for students to exchange scientific experience and opinions on translation and intercultural communication and wished fruitful discussions and good results.

Natalia Karpovskaya, the Rector's Plenipotentiary Representative in the Ibero-American area, Director of the International Institute of Interdisciplinary Education and Ibero-American Studies, congratulated the participants on the start of the conference, stressing that one of the goals of this event is to strengthen academic and scientific contacts between Russian and foreign universities.

Anna Motozhanets, Head of the Department of Ibero-American Studies in the field of Language, Translation and Intercultural Communication, and Zinaida Rezhuk, Head of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language and Methods of Teaching it, in their welcoming speech drew attention to the fact that the conference contributes to the development of the scientific potential of young researchers standing at the beginning of new discoveries.

The main directions of the conference were: educational technologies in the process of teaching foreign languages, current problems of intercultural communication, linguistic and cultural and cognitive-pragmatic aspects of translation, language as a marker of ethnocultural identity, reflection of intercultural interaction in domestic and foreign literature, effective communication in various social spheres, as well as modern issues of linguistics of text and discourse.

 The event was attended by bachelors, undergraduates, postgraduates and young scientists not only from the Southern Federal University, but also from the Belarusian State University (Belarus), the Francysk Skaryna Gomel State University (Belarus), the Shokan Ualikhanov Kokshetau University (Kazakhstan), the Uzbek State University of World Languages (Uzbekistan), as well as representatives of 28 Russian universities: Zabaikalsky State University, Irkutsk State University, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University,  Kuban State University, Lugansk State Pedagogical University, Moscow City Pedagogical University, Moscow State Linguistic University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow Pedagogical State University, Peoples' Friendship University of Russia. Patrice Lumumba, St. Petersburg State University, Siberian Federal University, Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin, etc.

According to tradition, the XVIII International Academic Internet readings "Philology, Intercultural Communication and Translation in the XXI century" were organized at the conference site as part of the implementation of the Virtual University "World without Borders" project, at which a lecture "Concept as an object of comparative linguoculturology (based on the vocabulary and phraseology of Romance languages)" was delivered by D.F.Professor of St. Petersburg State University N.G. Med; a lecture on the research field of neuropragmatics was presented by Ph.D., Associate Professor of the Siberian Federal University N.G. Burmakina; A lecture on the role and activities of the Asia-Pacific Secretariat of the Organization of World Heritage Cities was delivered by a representative of a foreign university, PhD, research professor at Dong-A University (South Korea), Cultural Heritage Advisor The Asia-Pacific Secretariat of the Organization of World Heritage Cities Lee Ji-eun.

In total, more than 250 people from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Syria, Colombia, Afghanistan, Palestine and South Korea took part in the event. More than 150 young researchers from 33 Russian and foreign universities made presentations at the breakout sessions at the International Conference.
