Rector and President of SFedU took part in the V International Scientific Conference "Strategic Problems, Threats and Risks of the Azov basin and the Azov Sea region"

On July 11, the V International Scientific Conference "Strategic Problems, Threats and Risks of the Azov Basin and the Azov Sea region" was held at the Southern Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The conference, which is held for two days, is organized with the support of the Russian Center for Scientific Information and the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The conference was attended by a delegation of the Russian Academy of Sciences headed by the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Gennady Krasnikov, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Higher Attestation Commission, Academician Vladislav Panchenko, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Gennady Matishov, First Deputy Governor of the Russian Academy of Sciences Igor Guskov, Rector of the Southern Federal University Inna Shevchenko, President of SFedU Marina Borovskaya, as well as members of the Russian Academy of Sciences from the Southern Federal District and the North Caucasus Federal District, representatives of business and public organizations, representatives of scientific and educational organizations of the LPR and DPR, rectors of universities.

The conference participants discussed issues related to the work of the Coordinating Council of the Southern Association of Scientific Organizations under the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the prospects for the creation of the Southern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the representative office of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Donetsk and others.

Rector of SFedU Inna Shevchenko noted that today the Russian Academy of Sciences continues to play a key role in the development of state scientific and technical policy.

During the plenary session, the results of fundamental and applied work related to the study of problems, patterns and processes in the South of Russia in the context of new geopolitical realities and climatic transformations, as well as issues of knowledge transfer, exchange of technological solutions and popularization of science were also discussed.

Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Gennady Matishov said:

"The south of Russia is a territory with an increased concentration of threats and risks of an economic, social, ethnopolitical, environmental and geopolitical nature. In addition, it is one of the most densely populated regions of the country, home to more than 26 million people, with developed agriculture, a high concentration of industries, mining and processing industries."

Marina Borovskaya, President of the SFedU, Chairman of the Council of Rectors of Universities in the South of Russia, told which scientific schools have historically been the strongest in the South of Russia and to this day are the drivers of the growth of territories on the Russian coast of the Azov, Black and Caspian Seas, which scientific research in universities in the southern regions is of international importance.

"A lot of work is underway at the Southern Federal University to study soils in which all the BRICS countries are interested. There are ideas for creating artificial soils — African countries are very interested in such developments. We are implementing several major federal projects: Priority 2030, AES, Mega grants. We try to implement the most advanced methods and technologies in our work, to be a driver in science and education in the South of Russia. This cannot but affect the development of the macroregion, where the Southern Federal University, in partnership with universities in the South of Russia, new territories and the North Caucasus Federal District, creates and participates in the development by integrating science and education of the macroregion South," Marina Borovskaya said.

The conference program also included an exhibition of scientific equipment, lectures and master classes for young scientists.
