On October 2-3, the First International Scientific Conference "SMART MICROFLUIDICS" was held in Sochi, organized by the International Research Institute of the Southern Federal University (SFedU). The event brought together scientists and industry representatives to discuss the latest achievements in the field of microfluidic technologies.
The conference program included plenary reports, a poster session and master classes. The participants presented developments aimed at solving problems in such areas as medicine, materials and analytical technologies. At the master class, the staff of the Southern Federal University demonstrated the process of designing microfluidic chips, their manufacture by DLP printing, as well as the assembly of microfluidic systems and diagnostics of reaction mixtures using optical spectroscopy.
"Today, microfluidic technologies open up completely new horizons for science and industry. Due to the possibility of conducting chemical reactions in microchannels, the size of which is measured in fractions of a millimeter, we can significantly increase the efficiency of the synthesis of new materials, reduce reaction time and reduce their cost. These technologies are at the heart of innovative "lean" low-tonnage chemistry, which allows you to minimize waste and use resources as efficiently as possible. This is especially important for the development of unique, including strategically important and extremely clean materials with specified properties, which is critical for achieving Russia's technological sovereignty and accelerated innovative development," said Alexander Soldatov, head of the scientific direction in the field of materials and synchrotron—neutron research at the Southern Federal University.
Among the participants of the event were representatives of the industrial sector, such as SIBUR-Innovations LLC, BIOCAD CJSC and the international company ASIGA, as well as leading scientists from Russian and foreign universities and research centers, including Ufa University of Science and Technology, INEOS RAS, ITMO University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, FITZ Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center SB RAS, and others.
Oral presentations were presented such as "The use of microfluidic technologies for the analysis of gene therapy drugs based on recombinant AAV" (Alexander Prokofiev, BIOCAD CJSC), "Development of a microfluidic system for the study of hemocompatibility and stability of coatings for blood pumping devices" (Kristina Popovich, Institute of Biotechnical Systems and Technologies of MIET).
During the poster session, the participants got acquainted with a number of interesting reports, including: Alexander Meshkov, "Prospects for the joint use of robotic platforms and microfluidic systems" (ITMO), Nazgul Bikkinina, "Features of fluid flow simulation in microchannels with internal structures", Karina Galieva, "Experimental studying of the fluid flow in the microfluidic chips with different pin packing parameters" (both Ufa University of Science and Technology) and a number of others.
According to Professor Alexander Soldatov, Scientific director of the Materials Science and Synchrotron-Neutron Research department at the Southern Federal University, the conference has become an important platform for exchanging experience and strengthening cooperation between Russian and international researchers. He also stressed that the Southern Federal University demonstrates its leadership position in the use of microfluidic technologies for accelerated development of new materials.
The first International Scientific Conference "SMART MICROFLUIDICS" was organized with the support of the SFedU development program "Priority 2030" (national project "Science and Universities").
