Young scientists of SFedU made a presentation at Yerevan State University

21 мая 2026 г.

On May 4-7, Valeria Gabova and Nikolay Dotsenko, young employees of the Department of Physical Geography, Ecology and Nature Conservation of the SFedU Institute of Earth Sciences, took part in the International Scientific Conference "Modern Problems of Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring in the Context of Climate Change: Adaptation, Sustainability and Production Processes" at Yerevan State University. The event was dedicated to the professional days of the forester, hydrologist and meteorologist, as well as Earth Day.

Representatives of the Southern Federal University Valeria Gabova and Nikolay Dotsenko made a presentation "Analysis of meteorological parameters of the Tambukan Lakes region as a basis for understanding the patterns of formation of their water-salt balance", which was prepared based on research results with the support of the Russian Science Foundation grant No. 24-17-00038 "Development of the theory of formation, functioning and evolution of lakes in the European part of Russia under anthropogenic influence and climate change" (head – Professor, Doctor of Geography, Head of the Department Yuri Fedorov). Due to the lack of modern meteorological observations in the area of Lake Bolshoy Tambukan and the intermittency of data from nearby weather stations, scientists for the first time restored a 70-year average annual temperature range using the LLRA geoinformation method. The results obtained made it possible to reasonably select a reference weather station for the subsequent calculation of the water-salt balance of the Tambukan lakes, which is extremely important for preserving the unique properties of therapeutic mud.

The conference also discussed achievements and prospects for the development of fundamental and applied scientific research in the field of hydrometeorology, environmental monitoring and environmental safety; priority issues facing hydrometeorology: models and prospects for its development, its role in solving socio-economic problems, analysis of the current state of the environment, climate change. In addition, issues of economic management of the development of modern society, legal regulation of the ecosystem, as well as priority issues of environmental and hydrometeorological education were discussed.
