From August 14 to 20, young scientists from Russia, Kazakhstan and Iran made a comprehensive expedition "The Caspian Sea — the sea of friendship and hope". The purpose of the expedition was to study the unique natural and territorial complexes of the mountainous and coastal landscapes of the Republic of Dagestan.

The expedition was organized by the Russian Geographical Society together with Dagestan State University with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. Kirill Sushko, Associate Professor of the Department of Oceanology of the Southern Federal University of the Russian Academy of Sciences (the Basic Department of the Southern Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences), Candidate of Geographical Sciences, visited the Caspian Sea from the Southern Federal University.

The expedition was attended by young specialists in the field of geography, ecology, tourism and nature management. They visited a number of unique natural and territorial complexes: the slopes of the Bogos ridge with access to the Adala-Shukhgelmeer glaciers, where studies were conducted to reduce the area of the cover glaciation using UAVs, the most inaccessible weather station in Europe "Sulak-Vysokogornaya", the Alpine Botanical Garden of the DNC RAS near the village of Gunib, sandy mountain Sary-Kum, Chirkeyskoe reservoir, Samursky National Park.

During the field research period, the analysis of gradual changes in the components of the natural environment — soils, vegetation and abiotic components of the environment — with the change of altitude zones in the gradient of increasing anthropogenic impact was carried out, the unique natural ecosystems of the highlands and the coast of the Caspian Sea were studied: the delta of the Samur River — liana forest.

The participants of the expedition identified key areas and studied the spatial and temporal structure of high-altitude geosystems to study the current state of the natural features of the Eastern Caucasus and the Northwestern Caspian Sea in the conditions of climatic fluctuations and increased anthropogenic load
.
Associate Professor Sushko expressed gratitude to the organizers of the expedition: Vice-Rector of Dagestan State University Alimurad Hajiyev, associate professors of the Institute of Ecology and Sustainable Development of DSU Zagir Atayev, Kasum Abdulayev, Muratkhan Hajibekov, Idris Idrisov and Abulgamid Teymurov.
