Research interests:

Solid-state chemistry of mixed metal oxides (both conventional high-temperature synthesis and soft chemistry routes): crystal chemistry, phase relations, cation exchange, cationic conductivity (including proton conductivity), positive electrodes for Li-ion and Na-ion cells; magnetism; chemistry of 3d elements; titanates, zirconates, niobates, tantalates, stannates, antimonates, tellurates, tungstates, silicates, germanates; general structural principles and phenomena (morphotropy, polymorphism, packing density, bond valence, etc); ferroelectrics; phase transitions; XRD analysis of biogenic minerals

Research projects:

2014-16: Search for, crystal structures, magnetic, electrical and redox properties of novel mixed oxides containing 3d elements in reduced and mixed oxidation states (Principal investigator). Project supported by RFBR, No 14-03-01122.

2011-13:  Atomic and magnetic structure of new mixed tellurates and antimonates of alkali metals with d elements (Principal investigator). Project supported by RFBR, No 11-03-01101

2010-11: Pattern production of inorganic and organic substances (Principal investigator). Grant-in Aid 00-15 from the International Centre for Diffraction Data

2007: Research and educational program "Solid State Ionics" (Project coordinator). Supported by the internal grant from the Southern Federal University, No К-07-Т-20

2005-06: X-ray study of biogenic minerals (Principal investigator). Contract with the Medical centre "Zdorovie" (Rostov-on-Don). 

2002-04: Superionic conductors: prognostic models, directed synthesis, structure, conduction mechanism and electrochemical processes (Project coordinator within Rostov University). Project И0674 supported by the Federal program "Integration of science and higher education in Russia.  

2000-02: Crystal-chemistry design, preparation and properties of complex oxides with high cationic mobility (Principal investigator). Project supported by RFBR, No 00-03-32469

Teaching:

  • Solid State Chemistry
    The discipline is taught in English, in collaboration with Dr Shukaev, for 1st year students of the Master program. It includes lectures, laboratory training, problem solutions, individual work (self-education), preparation and defending of an essay. It provides five credits and consists of the following five modules: (1) Metals, semiconductors and superconductors. Defects in crystals. (2) Solid State Ionics. (3) Dielectrics. (4) Preparative methods and microstructure. (5) Transport phenomena and dielectric properties. Final assessment: examination.
  • X-Ray Spectroscopy and X-Ray Diffraction
    The discipline is taught in English, in collaboration with Drs Morozov and Shukaev, for 1st year students of the Master program. It includes lectures, laboratory training, individual work (self-education) and problem solutions. It provides five credits and consists of the following modules: (1) X-Ray Spectroscopy (mostly XANES and EXAFS. (2) Diffraction Methods in Chemistry and Materials Science, with emphasize on powder methods including a brief account of non-X-ray diffraction methods. Final assessment: examination.
  • General and Physical Chemistry with Elements of Qualitative Analysis
    The discipline is taught in Russian for 1st year "Technical Physics" students. It consists of 3 modules: 1. Basic concepts. Structure of Matter. Qualitative analysis (including both chemical "wet" and X-ray phase analysis) 2. Chemical thermodynamics, kinetics, equilibria 3. Solutions, redox reactions, electrochemistry, phase diagrams
  • Structural Chemistry and Crystallography
    The discipline is taught in Russian for 3d year "Technical Physics" students. It consists of two modules: 1. Geometrical crystallography, basics of crystal physics, diffraction methods 2. Basics of structural chemistry
  • Structural Chemistry and Crystal Chemistry
    The discipline is taught in Russian for 3d year students of "Chemistry, Physics and Mechanics of Materials". It consists of three modules: 1. Geometrical crystallography and basics of crystal physics 2. Basic concepts of structural chemistry and general principles of coordination 3. Structural inorganic chemistry
  • Work with Foreign Research Literature
    The discipline is taught in Russian for 3d year students of "Chemistry, Physics and Mechanics of Materials". It consists of two modules: 1. Web resources, scientometrics, principles of scientific translation from English 2. Databases and library
  • Metal science
    The discipline is taught in Russian for 3d year students of "Chemistry, Physics and Mechanics of Materials". It consists of two modules: 1. Theory 2. Laboratory training: heat treatment of steel, its mechanical properties, microstructure & microhardness, chemical-thermal treatment, oxidation resistance
