1st year students of the I.I. Vorovich Institute of Mathematics, Mechanics and Computer Science of the Southern Federal University, enrolled in the training program for top specialists in the field of AI, took part in the Summer School "Stochastic Methods and Artificial Intelligence — 2026".
From May 31 to June 6, the Divnomorskoye settlement of the Krasnodar Territory hosted the "Summer School "Stochastic Methods and Artificial Intelligence — 2026". The summer School was held within the framework and with the organizational support of the 11th International Conference on Stochastic Methods, as well as within the framework of the Program for the development of the Center for Training Researchers and developers in the field of AI (head of the center — M.I. Karyakin).
This conference brings together leading scientists, mathematicians, and developers interested in the intersection and development of stochastic methods and artificial intelligence technologies. For first-year students, participation in the school was not just an introduction to big science, but a "baptism of fire" in the world of modern mathematics and advanced research.

The school presented lectures and seminars on the application of random processes in machine learning, Bayesian methods and stochastic optimization of neural networks.
The students had the opportunity to ask questions to recognized experts from Russia and abroad, which helped them better understand the challenges facing businesses right now. The students were addressed by Albert Shiryaev, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Manuel Leote Esquivel, Professor at the University of Lisbon NOVA, Portugal, Dmitry Rokhlin, Head of the Department of Optimization Methods and Machine Learning at SFedU, Denis Kartelev, a leading business analyst at Metcom Invest.
As part of the Summer School, a round table was held with the Director of the Regional Scientific and Educational Mathematical Center, Professor Alexey Karapetyants, Professor Dmitry Rokhlin, Professor Oleg Kudryavtsev, and Vladislav Kravchenko, a leading researcher at the Center. In an informal setting, the students got an idea of the directions of research projects in the learning process and discussed further plans.

Participation in the conference allowed first-year students to see the connection between classical probability theory and modern algorithms, which will become a solid foundation for their further training.
"Getting to a conference of this level in the first year is a great success and a challenge," the students shared their impressions. "Lectures on stochastic methods open our eyes to what mathematics is used in AI models and what challenges developers face."
The organizers noted the high level of basic training of the I.I. Vorovich Institute of Mathematics, Mechanics and Computer Science students and their genuine interest in the topic. The Institute plans to continue supporting the participation of talented first-year students in such scientific and educational events in order to train not just users, but creators of new AI technologies.
