The Institute of Management in Economic, Environmental and Social Systems held the traditional Constellation of Cultures festival dedicated to Africa

26 мая 2026 г.

The event helps to get acquainted with the peculiarities of the countries of the African continent, to improve cross-cultural communication.

Festivals of cultures of different nations are regularly held at the Southern Federal University and have already become a good tradition. This time, the Institute of Management in Economic, Environmental and Social Systems gathered representatives of the African continent in the walls of the student club in Taganrog.

The guests of the event were able to learn about the culture of SFedU foreign students from Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Egypt, Gambia, Morocco, Uganda, Yemen, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Sudan, Rwanda, Cameroon.

"It has already become a tradition for the Institute of Management in Economic, Environmental and Social Systems to hold cultural festivals, because we have more than 300 foreigners from 24 countries studying here. In 2025, we introduced the foreign students of our department to Russian culture, and they introduced us to the culture and gastronomic peculiarities of African and Chinese countries.

In 2026, in addition to the expanded festival of African countries, of which more than 150 people study at SFedU Institute of Management in Economic, Environmental and Social Systems, we plan to continue exploring Chinese culture and discover new countries, including Latin America and the CIS. I would like to thank our international students for organizing such a colorful festival and invite everyone to our new events," said Elena Zashchitina, Deputy Director of the SFedU Institute of Management in Economic, Environmental and Social Systems for Social, International and Career Guidance.

The main program of the festival included dances, songs with folk motifs and a modern twist, students' stories about the cultural traditions of their countries, a fashion show, theatrical sketches, and the Miss Africa contest. At the end of the concert, the guests were treated to traditional dishes of African cuisine and the weaving of Afro braids.

"We thought it would be cool if we talked about our culture to everyone. We've known each other for a long time, we understand who has what talents – all this prompted us to organize the concert.

I would like to wish everyone in my native Nigeria who chooses a foreign university to come here. Russia is a very beautiful country, it's safe here. The people are honest, cultured, the cuisine is excellent, and the education is very affordable," said Daniel Moses Aron, one of the organizers of the concert, a 2nd–year graduate student in the International Business program.

It is worth noting that interest in such events is growing every year. Students from Latin America, Asia and, of course, from Russia come to get acquainted with the culture of Africa.

"Mr. Olumodeji Elijah oversees the English club that I attend. He posted the announcement on his social media, and I was interested and decided to come.

I liked it the most when the audience was invited to the stage and they became live participants in the performance. After that, I want even more such interactivity! At the concert, I learned a lot about Africans, made useful acquaintances – in general, I definitely spent this time with pleasure and benefit," concluded Ivan Belyaev, a 4th–year student.
