The SFedU swimming team won the regional championship

From April 14 to 15, the Rostov Region Championship among students was held on the basis of the Southern Meridian swimming pool of the Southern Federal University. The competition was attended by teams from different universities of SFedU, RSEU, DSTU, RSUPS, YURSPU (NPI), RANEPA.

The SFedU swimmers won 26 medals. Of the 18 types of the program in the individual championship, 13 first places were left for our students. Russian Masters of Sports Mark Dovganev, Artem Lozychenko, Alexey Khomenko (Institute for Earth Sciences), Nikolay Skabelkin, Vladislav Rudenko (Institute for Sociology and Regional Studies), Diana Sheludchenko and Ekaterina Vasilenko (Academy of Physical Culture and Sport) were particularly distinguished.

3 second places were won by Mark Dovganev, Alexey Khomenko (Institute for Earth Sciences), and Tatiana Korolkova (Academy of Physical Culture and Sport) and 4 third places went to Anatoly Kopikov, Mark Dovganev (Institute for Earth Sciences), Ekaterina Vasilenko and Tatiana Korolkova (Academy of Physical Culture and Sport).

In the relay swimming of 6 relays, the swimmers of the SFedU took 5 first places and 1 second.

The record holder for the number of medals won was the Master of Sports of Russia Vladislav Rudenko (Institute for Sociology and Regional Studies). Vladislav won 6 gold medals out of 6 possible types of the program. It is also possible to note the medal performance of the master of sports Alexey Khomenko – 5 gold and 1 silver medal, Diana Sheludchenko 5 gold and 1 silver medal.

The year 2021 was a jubilee year for the SFedU swimming team. Since 2001, the team under the leadership of the Master of Sports of Russia Victoria Barabanova began to take part in regional, all-Russian and international competitions.

During the four Olympic cycles, the swimmers of the SFedU swimming team represented the level of Russian student sports and the brand of the university at the largest international competitions, the Olympic Games, the World and European Championships, and the World Summer Universiade among Students.

During the training period for 20 years, the national swimming team consisted of world sports stars, honored masters of Sports of Russia in swimming and modern pentathlon, members of the national team of athletes competing at the Olympic Games in Athens, Beijing, London, Rio de Janeiro, represented by honored masters of sports: 2-time Olympic champion Andrey Moiseev, 2-time Olympic bronze medalist Arkady Vyatchanin, 2-time Olympic silver medalist in Rio de Janeiro Yulia Efimova, finalist of the Olympic Games in Sydney, medalist of the European and World Championships Anatoly Polyakov, multiple medalist of the European and World Championships in modern pentathlon Alexey Turkin, finalist of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro Ilya Khomenko. As well as a number of masters of sports of international class who are part of the team of Mark Tarasov, Mikhail Mikheev, Artem Dubovsky, Nikolai Klepikov.

The SFedU swimming team is a multiple winner and prize-winner of the All-Russian Student Festival and was awarded the gratitude of the President of the RSSS.

Members of the national swimming team regularly become prize-winners in the All-Russian Summer Student Universiades.

After a break in participation in competitions related to the pandemic, the SFedU swimming team once again confirmed the high professional level of training and the opportunity to defend the honor of the university in all-Russian and international competitions.
