From February 2 to 6, Volgograd hosted the qualifying tournament of the XII Spartakiad of Russian Students, in which teams from the Southern and North Caucasian Federal Districts competed.
The Rostov region basketball team was led by the mentors of the junior team of Peresvet-SFedU – Timur Kakhorov and Evgeny Soldatkin. The following players entered the regional team: Angelina Zasyak, Yulia Voronova, Polina Plotnikova, Maria Vertieva, Inna Kostromina, Vitalina Derkunskaya, Elizaveta Egorova, Violetta Babkova, Ekaterina Yurkova, Kira Romanenko, Anastasia Boschenko, Alexandra Obrezanova.
Our team successfully passed the group stage, alternately beating the national teams of Stavropol Territory 75:32, Krasnodar Territory 64:46 and Volgograd region 69:49.
Representatives of the Rostov region performed no less successfully at the playoff stage. Stavropol basketball players were beaten 67:32 in the semifinals again. And the final match was the most productive at the tournament, in which the girls beat the Krasnodar Territory national team with a score of 100:57.
Maria Vertieva and Inna Kostromina became the best snipers in the Rostov Region national team, their average points scored per game were 14.4 and 12 points, respectively.
Following the results of the qualifying tournament, the Rostov Region national team became the best in the south of Russia and qualified for the All-Russian Final of the Spartakiad!
