Range of the main scientific interests - recreational architecture of the South of Russia, climate influence on architecture, atrium spaces, hotel buildings.
There are more than 150 items in his research, educational and design works list.
Recipient of International and Russian architectural competitions.
The license to have right to do an independent architectural activity (1994).
Member of the Union of Russian Architects (since 1994), board member of the Rostov branch of the Union of Russian Architects (from 2016).
He was awarded with:
- medal of the Union of Russian Architects «For outstanding contributions to architectural education» named after I.V.Zholtovsky (the highest award of the professional community for architects who work as university teachers as well);
- President diploma of the Union of Russian Architects «For significant contribution to the development of higher architectural education, for special tributes in creative and social activities, for creating architectural and urban planning works»;
- honorary certificate of Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation;
- thanks letters of Ministry of culture and Ministry of construction, architecture and territorial development of the Rostov region;

1970 - 1975 – with high marks graduated from the architectural faculty of the Rostov Institute of Civil Engineering (RICE), major subject "Architecture";
15.02 – 15.06.1982 - advanced professional training course at the Moscow Architectural Institute, major subject "Architecture" (624 hours of classes);
1983 - 1986 - post-graduate student in the Architectural Design Department of The Leningrad Engineering Institute (LISI) (currently St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering); PhD thesis "Design principles of summer recreation complexes in terms of the Azov seaside"; research adviser - Leonid Pavlovich Lavrov (doctor of architecture, professor, corresponding member of Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences, honored architect of Russia);
01.01 – 30.06.1997 – completed internship program, Impact Exchange, Toronto, Canada;
30.06 - 11.07.2008 – completed internship program, Polytechnic University of Turin, Turin, Italy.
Work as an architect:
1975 - 1979 - worked in the Soviet design institutes;
1979 to present time – has done work as an architect, combining it with university teaching, scientific and research activities.

1979 - to present time - Academy of Architecture and Arts of Southern Federal University (Architectural Faculty of the Rostov Institute of Civil Engineering (RICE), Rostov Institute of Architecture, Rostov State Academy of Architecture and Arts), since 2001 to present time - professor of «Architecture of residential and public buildings» department);
1991 - 1996 - Director of Architects Advanced Training faculty, Rostov Institute of Architecture;

2021 – to present time – Co-organizer of the All-Union review-competition of architectural course projects for students of Russian universities "The Architectural Future of Russia";

II. EDUCATIONAL WORK
L.P. Shevchenko has prepared the following lecture courses: "Present-day problems of architecture, urban planning and design", "Problems of reconstruction: architectural design in terms of reconstruction," "Basic principles of the profession", "Up-to-date trends in the architecture of public buildings", "Regional features of the architecture", "Architecture of atrium spaces of large public buildings".
He is a research adviser of research and scientific work, architectural design of postgraduate students, candidates for a degree, master and bachelor degree students.
More than 50 projects made under the L.P. Shevchenko leadership, awarded diplomas and certificates at the International and Russian architectural competitions.
He is the head of the educational master degree program 07.04.01 «Architecture» (2016 - 2018).
III. SCIENTIFIC AND RESEARCH WORK
L.P. Shevchenko is a head and responsible executor of research grants, including:
