Cherkass Irina A. graduated with honors from the Faculty of Foreign Languages ​​of the Russian State Pedagogical University in 1985.

In 1989-92. was trained in full-time postgraduate study at the Department of English Philology.

In 1993 she defended her thesis on specialty 10.02.04; Germanic languages ​​in Pyatigorsk State Linguistic Institute. After graduating from the graduate school, she worked at the Department of English Philology, first as a senior teacher, and then as an assistant professor.

Since 1998 she was elected to the position of head of the department of English philology.

Conducts intensive research and scientific and methodological activities. From 1993 to the present time she published 80 scientific and educational-methodical works, including a number of articles in the central press, which have direct access to a variety of linguistic practices.

The sphere of her scientific interests is the study of problems in the framework of a functional-communicative-paradigmatic direction in linguistics, as well as issues of intercultural communication and competence, and linguistics.

Total number of scientific publications: 71, of which 3 VAK publications.
Total number of educational and methodological publications: 26.

Over the past 3 years, she supervised 18 diplomas and 20 courseworks. The reports prepared under the supervision were awarded with diplomas at student conferences of SFedU. The results of joint research were highlighted in articles co-authored with students. 2 reports were awarded with diplomas of the international youth scientific forum "Lomonosov" (Moscow, Moscow State University)

Tutor of the student scientific circle on the problems of functional grammar and cultural linguistics.

Participation in 2 scientific and 1 methodical conferences.
Participation in 4 grants of SFedU (2007-2008) and fundamental scientific research under a grant from RFBR.
