In the footsteps of the Firebird: how the Interdisciplinary Education and Ibero-American Studies united cultures

13 марта 2026 г.

On March 11, a concert of the International Institute of Interdisciplinary Education and Ibero-American Studies took place at the Southern Federal University on the stage of the Rostov-on-Don Regional House of Folk Art. The audience was waiting for a story about the captain of a pirate ship, his crew, a trip around the world and the search for the Bird of Happiness.

At first, there was a dream of the captain of the ship, Jack, who never managed to watch the dream to the end, because his restless companions Finch and Bonnie were nearby. They woke him up and informed him that the ship had been stolen.

Each member of the team has his own character, his own purpose and his own grief. Jack is sincerely convinced that everything is under control — even in those moments when he has no control, no ship, no money, no rum, no plan. He dreams of a Firebird that will fulfill all his desires. But the trouble is: to find the bird of happiness, you need to travel around the world and learn the intricacies of intercultural communication! Bonnie is a single—minded pirate who prefers a tit in her hand to a crane in the sky. Or even better, your own private island in the ocean with palm trees and white sand. But the trouble is, she doesn't have the money to buy the island. At the same time, she is sure that without her strategic approach, Jack and Finch will simply disappear. Finch's problem is rum, lots of rum! But the trouble is: where can I get enough money to buy a barrel of rum? But he is not discouraged and is always ready to support his friends (even if you need to get into a fight).

And then the team gets a chance.  The pirates find themselves holding a card with the coveted word "Firebird". Trying to unravel its symbols, the characters set off on a journey and soon meet Afanasy Nikitin, the famous author of the first travelogues "Walking across three Seas". He is ready to help the team and gives them directions. According to the Russian traveler, to find a real treasure, you need to find special "pearls". They are the ones who will free the team from the curse and lead it to the bird of happiness.

In search of these pearls, the team embarks on a great journey around the world. Their route passes through Latin America, China, Bangladesh, the countries of the East and Africa. Each new point on the route opens up a vibrant and distinctive cultural world for the heroes.

The participants of the concert, representing different countries, peoples, cultures and traditions, gave a special atmosphere to the meetings. Everyone was charmed by the Shamakhi Queen with her dance, struck by Bangladeshi rap, shocked by African rhythms, fascinated by Turkmen girls, Sadkos, the translator from the language of fish, was fascinated by her singing, Chinese warriors were captivated by her martial dance, and the beautiful sirens and melodies of the international ensemble were mesmerizing. And the guys from Latin America presented a medley of national dances from nine countries of the continent. Costumes and music contributed to the creation of the color of the world tour and made it fascinating and truly lively.

The final point of the route is Russia, a place where, according to legend, the sun never sets. It is here that the pirate captain, who also turned out to be a wonderful pianist, and his friends will find the main bonus of their journey — the Firebird, the embodiment of light and the long-awaited fulfillment of desires.

Have the heroes found the treasure? They definitely found something more valuable. During their journey, each of them found their own happiness and understanding that the most important things in life are friendship, love, mutual assistance and intercultural competencies. And also your own home, where you are understood and expected. And this multinational country, Russia, has become their home.

It is symbolic that this story united not only the audience in the hall. The concert was broadcast live, and the journey of the heroes was watched by viewers from different countries and even continents.
