From December 14 to December 28, 2025, the SFedU delegation participated in an intensive professional development program organized by the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (SAIRI).
The visit was a logical continuation of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, which consolidated the parties' intentions to develop joint initiatives in the field of artificial intelligence, quantum machine learning and neurotechnology.
The delegation included leading scientists and experts from the university, employees of the Center for Training Researchers and developers in the field of artificial intelligence:
Vasily Kalachev – Head of the Department of Automation Technology in Business at the Institute of Mathematics, Mechanics and Computer Science;

Oleg Kudryavtsev is a professor at the Department of Optimization Methods and Machine Learning at the Institute of Mathematics, Mechanics and Computer Science;
Maxim Scriabin – Head of the Scientific Laboratory "Evidence-based Education and Educational Analytics";
Mikhail Soldatov is an associate professor at the International Research Institute of Intelligent Materials;
Alexey Tselykh is an Associate Professor at the Department of Information and Analytical Security Systems named after Professor L.S. Berstein, ICTIS;
Dmitry Shaposhnikov is a leading researcher at the Neurointerfaces Youth Laboratory at the Neurotechnology Research and Technology Center;
Igor Shepelev is a leading researcher at the Bioinspired Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory at the Neurotechnology Research and Technology Center.

The composition of the delegation reflects the interdisciplinary nature of modern challenges and demonstrates the SFedU's readiness for comprehensive cooperation with Chinese partners: from the development of AI algorithms to the creation of neural interfaces and "smart" materials.
During the business trip, representatives of the SFedU held talks with leading scientific and educational institutions in Shanghai.
In particular, an agreement was reached in principle on the establishment of a joint laboratory of the Southern Federal University on the basis of the Shanghai Research Institute of Artificial Intelligence. The laboratory will become a platform for joint multidisciplinary research and training of top specialists in the field of artificial intelligence.

At Shanghai Jiaotong University (the second university in the world in the 2025 Leiden University scientometric ranking), the delegation was personally received by YAN Junch (h=90), Professor of the Shanghai Institute of Artificial Intelligence, who shared his experience in implementing world-class educational programs and preparing publications at the A* conference. The key research areas of the scientific group are graph learning and combinatorial optimization, computer vision and autonomous driving, artificial intelligence in scientific research (AI4Science).
During the visit to the Center for Translational Medicine at Shanghai Jiaotong University, a joint application for the BRICS competition was discussed with the research group of Professor ZHANG Yue, who works in the field of neurotechnology in rehabilitation medicine.
Shanghai Jiaotong University Professor GAO Yue expressed interest in conducting joint research in the field of reinforcement learning for robotics.

KOU Xingran, a professor at the School of Perfumery and Aromatic Technology at the Shanghai Institute of Technology, suggested using the unique equipment of the SFedU to conduct joint experimental research in the field of neurochemistry and sensory interfaces.
FENG Shuai, Professor at the Center for Russian and Central Asian Studies at the Shanghai Institute of International Studies, stressed the importance of academic dialogue as a factor in strengthening Russian-Chinese relations in the context of global transformation.
Special attention was paid to cooperation with technology companies of the Shanghai innovation cluster.
At the MindSpore innovation center, the parties held talks on the launch of an educational track with the HCIA-AI certification program for teachers and students of SFedU, an internship program for graduate students, as well as the creation of a Huawei Chinese computing stack competence center based on SFedU, focused on developing AI solutions using alternative frameworks.
TuringQ discussed the possibility of introducing educational courses on quantum machine learning based on the QBoX platform.

The Xinan Neurointerface Superincubator presented the developments of the Southern Federal University in the field of neurointerfaces. Chinese startups have expressed their willingness to provide test access to their equipment for joint research and project activities of students.
The delegation visited the office of MScape, a company that works in the field of embodied artificial intelligence. The company has introduced the Dvorak superheterogenic architecture, which solves the problem of asynchronous coordination between the decision-making level (the robot's "brain") and the motion control level (the robot's "cerebellum"), significantly improving real-time performance and the speed of the robot's motor response.
Advanced developments of AISpeech, a unicorn company in the field of multimedia and conversational AI, will find application in the design of new educational spaces at SFedU.
Visits were made to the office of Unitree Robotics, the market leader in four-legged and humanoid robots, to the Ucloud data center and a number of other leading Chinese companies.
The business trip to Shanghai was an important step in the implementation of the SFedU program in the field of artificial intelligence and strengthening the university's position in the global scientific and educational space.
