On December 11, the All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference of Students and Young Scientists with international participation "English in the modern scientific and educational space" was held at the SFedU. The working languages of the conference are Russian and English.
The event was held in a hybrid format on the basis of the SFedU International Institute of Interdisciplinary Education and Ibero-American Studies, which organized the conference.
At the opening of the conference, Natalia Karpovskaya, the Rector's Plenipotentiary representative in the countries of the Ibero-American area, Director of the SFedU MIMDO, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech, emphasizing that the conference is part of a cycle of scientific events organized by MIMDO in November-December 2024 and aimed at developing youth science. The participants of the conference were also greeted by I.O. Anna Motozhanets, Head of the Department of Ibero-American Studies in the field of Language, Translation and Intercultural Communication at MIMDO, expressed confidence that the annual conference would contribute to the development of student science, strengthen scientific and academic contacts between Russian and foreign universities, and noted the growing interest of young researchers in the conference.
The main areas of the conference were: English in the modern communicative space; literature and culture of English-speaking countries; cognitive and pragmatic research in the field of English; issues of theory and practice of translation; current problems of teaching English. Within the framework of the conference, the section "The contemporary English language: relevant issues and research trends" was held, which became a platform for students from Russia, Egypt, Syria, Nigeria, Iran, and South Korea to present reports in English.
During the plenary session, the conference participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the reports delivered by Yana Alexandrovna Volkova, Doctor of Philology, Professor at the Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, and Irina I. Davtyants, Head of the International Scientific Laboratory for Cognitive and Pragmatic Research, Senior Lecturer at the SFedU Moscow Institute of Economics.
The conference was attended by students from more than 20 Russian and foreign universities, among them: Southern Federal University, Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, Moscow State Linguistic University, Moscow State Technical University of Civil Aviation, National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE), St. Petersburg State University of Economics, St. Petersburg State Institute of Culture, Russian State University for the Humanities, Belgorod State National Research University, Siberian Federal University, Pyatigorsk State University, Tver State University, National Research Tomsk State University, Irkutsk State University, Donetsk State University, Kuban State University, Gyeongsang National University, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, University of Veracruz, etc. In total, more than 100 people from Russia, Brazil, Mexico, Syria, Nigeria, Iran, Egypt, China, and South Korea took part in the event.
Traditionally, the XXI International Academic Internet Readings "Problems of Internationalization, intercultural and Professional Communication" were organized at the conference site as part of the implementation of the Virtual University's "World Without Borders" project, at which the lecturers were: Adolfo Tanzi Neto, Silvia Armada (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Victor Hugo Ramirez Ramirez (University of Veracruz, Mexico) and Anna Aleksandrovna Motozhanets (Southern Federal University, Russia).
