Southern Federal University organized and held the next Phenma-2024 in India

10.11.2024

The next annual international conference, traditionally held by the Southern Federal University in Asian countries “Physics and Mechanics of New Materials and Their Applications” (PHENMA-2024) was held from November 7-9 in Indore, India.

Together with the SFedU, the organizers of the twelfth Asian conference since 2012 were the Institute of Engineering & Technology, DAVV (Indore, India) and National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (Kaohsiung, Taiwan). Previous conferences were held in Rostov-on-Don (2012), Taiwan (2013), Thailand (2014), Azov (2015, it was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Southern Federal University), Indonesia (2016, 2023), India (2017), South Korea (2018), Vietnam (2019), Japan (2021) and Divnomorskoye settlement (2022, 10th Anniversary Conference). Traditionally, the co-chairs of this series of conferences are the chief researcher of the I. I. Vorovich Institute of Mathematics, Mechanics and Computer Science of the Southern Federal University, Doctor of Technical Sciences Ivan Parinov and Professor Shun-Hsyung Chang (Taiwan). The other co-chairs this time were Professor Nagendra Sohani (India) and Professor Vijay Kumar Gupta (India). More than 1000 participants of PHENMA-2024 from 19 countries of the world presented 343 abstracts. The topics of the plenary, oral and video reports of the conference participants were: the processes of obtaining and manufacturing promising materials and composites with special properties (including nanostructures; ferroelectric piezoelectrics and other related materials; ceramics; materials obtained during the processing of food waste and plant products, etc.); a wide range of research methods of physics, mechanics and materials science, including experimental and theoretical developments, mathematical modeling, promising devices and equipment based on modern materials and technologies; underwater and biomedical applications (in particular, reception, transmission and processing of sound signals and images underwater, biomechanics, materials and devices of medical equipment); a separate section was devoted to industry and management issues related to modern materials. Scientists, graduate students and students of almost all natural and technical departments of the Southern Federal University took an active part in the last forum. At the current conference, Ph.D. A. S. Kornievsky made plenary and oral presentations, Ph.D. A. V. Cherpakov and PhD student S. A. Egorova also made oral presentations. All of them represented the I. I. Vorovich Institute of Mathematics, Mechanics and Computer Science. For full-time participation in PHENMA-2024, the SFedU organized and conducted a special competition for the selection of candidates and allocated appropriate funding, https://sfedu.ru/press-center/news/75556 . Other employees of the Southern Federal University presented 9 video reports (all video reports will be uploaded to the conference website http://phenma2024.sfedu.ru ).

The co-chairman of the conference, Ivan Parinov, discussed with his Asian partners ways of further cooperation both in the field of subsequent PHENMA conferences and joint research, as well as the realization of educational opportunities for international students at the Southern Federal University. Previous PHENMA conferences have already allowed students from Indonesia and Taiwan to continue their postgraduate studies at SFedU, who then successfully defended their PhD theses. In the Laboratory of Mechanics and Physics of New Materials and Devices of the Institute of Mathematics, Mechanics and Computer Science in 2021-2022. According to the postdoc program, the SFedU conducted research by a postdoc from India. The conference was held in the offline/online mode that has become common after the pandemic, but in a wonderful atmosphere of traditional Asian friendliness, cordiality, openness, a great desire for cooperation and expansion of existing scientific and educational ties. One of the important results of the conference was the preparation of a MEMORIAL OF UNDERSTANDING between Devi Ahilya University, Indore, India and Southern Federal University. The reports presented at PHENMA-2024 demonstrated the existing high level of international cooperation and included the results of joint Russian-Taiwanese, Russian-Indian and Russian-Indonesian studies. The collection of abstracts was published by the SFedU publishing house before the forum, presented in electronic form on the PHENMA-2024 website: phenma2024.sfedu.ru/files/PHENMA2024_Indore_India_ABSTRACTS_SCHEDULE_M.pdf and it will be indexed separately for all abstracts in the RSCI. As usual, full-text reports will be published in 2025. in the form of two collective monographs published by SPRINGER – NATURE (SJR: Q3, IF = 0.24) and NOVA SCIENCE PUBLISHERS, which are indexed in Scopus. Special issues dedicated to PHENMA-2024 will appear in two international journals: "Journal of Advanced Dielectrics" (SJR: Q3, IF = 0.37) and “Mechanics of Composite Materials” (SJR: Q3, IF = 0.34). In total, more than 100 full-text reports indexed in Scopus will be published. The highest level and interest shown in the reports of the PHENMA conferences, and the easy recognition of these conferences in the world is characterized at least by the fact that the reports of previous PHENMA conferences published in 2014-2024 at SPRINGER publishing house are among the leading 25% of SPRINGER electronic publications downloaded by users the largest number of times (they were downloaded more than 400,000 times and received more than 600 citations). The conference took another step in the development of scientific, technical and educational cooperation between SFedU and partner universities and organizations of Asian countries.
