On November 12-13, the V International Scientific Conference "Armenians of Russia: History, Culture, Common Future" is being held in the Main Building of the Southern Federal University.

The event is organized by the Institute of Sociology and Regional Studies of the Southern Federal University, the Southern Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Nakhichevan-on-Don Armenian community. During the conference, issues of the history of the formation of Armenian communities and their current state, the role of the Armenian population in the socio-economic and cultural development of the region, interaction with other peoples, ethnic identity and social adaptation of the Armenians of Russia will be raised at the plenary session, sessions and discussions.

For two days, participants will take part in plenary sessions, work on sections, and also take excursions to iconic places in the Rostov region. The conference brought together historians, sociologists, art historians, cultural scientists, archaeologists, and educators.

The conference brought together researchers from Russia and countries near and far abroad, including Armenia, Belarus, Italy and others.

Thematic blocks of the conference:

- Armenia's role in the international political process;

- The Armenian Diaspora and its uniqueness;

- The historical cultural heritage of the Armenians in the world culture.

The time of the event coincided with a significant date – the 245th anniversary of the resettlement of Crimean Armenians to the Don land.

Anatoly Metelitsa, the First Vice-rector of SFedU, noted the importance of such events for the preservation of cultural heritage.

"Conferences of this level help us not only to strengthen interethnic ties, but also to deepen the understanding of cultural interaction in our multinational country," the Vice—rector said, emphasizing the historical importance of the Armenian community for the development of the region.

The event covers a wide range of issues related to the history of Armenian communities in Russia, their cultural contribution and their modern role in Russian society. Mikhail Chernyshov, Chairman of the Rostov-on-Don Civic Chamber, noted that the Armenian community of the city has maintained stable interethnic relations for many years and actively participates in public life.

According to Harutyun Surmalyan, head of the Nakhichevan-on-Don Armenian Community NGO, such forums are necessary to strengthen ties between young researchers from Russia and Armenia, exchange experiences and popularize the Armenian cultural heritage. He also stressed the importance of involving young people in the study of ethnocultural processes, which allows expanding scientific and cultural horizons.

The conference has been held since 2012. SFedU has been the venue for this event for the third year.
