On September 19, a lecture by Arran Fernandes, Professor at the Eastern Mediterranean University, Cyprus, took place within the framework of the regular scientific seminar of the RSEMC SFedU. The seminar was led by Professors A.N. Karapetyants and V.V. Kravchenko.
Arran Fernandes is an English mathematician who in June 2013, at the age of 18, became the youngest Senior Wrangler. Senior Wrangler is the top mathematics student at Cambridge University in England, and the position has been called "the greatest intellectual achievement attainable in the UK." In 2010, he was admitted to Fitzwilliam College at the University of Cambridge on an exceptional basis; at that time Arran Fernandez was 15 years old. After his studies, Professor Fernandes went to Cyprus to the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), where he still works. He has more than 100 scientific publications to his credit. His research interests include fractional calculus, theory of functions, asymptotic methods, number theory, etc.
On October 3, Professor Fernandes gave a lecture on fractional calculus of functions at the seminar of the Russian Scientific Research Center of the Southern Federal University. The concept of fractional calculus of functions (in recent years sometimes called psi-fractional calculus) arises naturally as a fractional version of Stieltjes integration. Professor Fernandes presented a historical overview, and also gave a more general way of considering the ratios of transmutation in fractional calculus.
The seminar on Analysis, Differential Equations and Mathematical Physics was attended by about forty mathematicians - specialists from leading scientific and educational centers of the world in Russia and other countries, including graduate students and students of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of the Southern Federal University and young scientists.
Online scientific seminar of the Regional Scientific and Educational Mathematical Center (https://rmc.sfedu.ru /) is held regularly every two weeks, announcements of new seminars and videos of previous seminars are available on the website http://msrn.sfedu.ru/sl . The seminar is attended by leading researchers from around the world whose research interests are related to analysis, differential equations and mathematical physics. The scientific seminar of the mathematical center is open, and everyone can take part in it.
