The Day of Social Sciences was held at the Lyceum of the Southern Federal University

On the Day of Russian Science, February 8, the series of subject days of the current academic year at the Lyceum of the Southern Federal University was continued by the Day of Social Sciences.

Day of the Social Sciences in Lyceum of SFedU dedicated to the to the Day of Russian science, began with a plenary session, during which the Director of the Lyceum SFU Anna Dmitrov class representatives communicated with the guests of honor.

Lawyer Igor Vetrov, Managing Partner of the Law Firm of Rostov Region "Vetrov" presented to the audience the speech "Advocacy: the way to the profession".

Anna Ertel, Associate Professor of the Department of Socio-Economic Geography and Environmental Management of the Institute for Earth Sciences of the Southern Federal University, told the Lyceum students about the areas of training and research activities of the department she represented.

The subject sections featured presentations by Lyceum students. Students presented their research in the field of social studies, economics and geography, carried out under the guidance of teachers of the Lyceum of the Southern Federal University Alexey Kovalev, Oksana Lagutina and Artem Peretyatko. In the role of experts, the speakers and the audience communicated with: Nikita Burmistrov, a specialist on educational and methodical work of the Faculty of Business "Captains" of the SFedU; 4th year student of the journalism Department, specialist on educational and methodical work of the Institute of Philology, Journalism and Intercultural Communication, SFedU Alla Dolgov; 3rd year student of the faculty of business "Captains" SFedU Stepan Egupov and a graduate of the Lyceum of Southern Federal University, 1st year student of the Institute of computer technologies and Information Security SFedU Natalia Seroshtan.

On the subject day, the lyceum students implemented a number of activities. Students of the 10th humanitarian class became the initiators of the "Parade of Countries". All interested students and teachers, wearing a traditional costume or a stereotypical attribute of a representative of any country, could be captured against the background of the photo zone "We are different on planet Earth", designed by a student of the 11th humanitarian.

Also, students of the humanities prepared and conducted a business game for technical high school students, developed together with social studies teacher Maria Fedorova.

Another initiative of the lyceum students was to hold a vote on the election of a candidate for the first named audience in the Lyceum of the Southern Federal University. Ivan Gridnev, a student of the 11th humanitarian class, informed the representatives of all classes in advance about the prospective candidates and their contribution to science. Participants of the lyceum community were invited to vote for one of the candidates:

- Georgy Vitoldovich Voitkevich (1920-1997) - Soviet and Russian geologist, geochemist, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Professor;

- Iosif Izrailevich Vorovich (1920-2001) - outstanding mechanic and mathematician, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor;

- Alexander D. Garnovsky (1932-2010) - Russian chemist, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor;

- Nina Zababurova (1944-2014) - Soviet and Russian philologist, literary critic and translator, Doctor of Philology, Professor;

- Vladimir Korolev (1940-2005) - the largest Russian historian, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor;

- Antonina Georgievna Khripkova (1920-2016) - Soviet teacher, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor.

Voting took place in face-to-face and remote formats. In the Lyceum for students and teachers there was a polling station. Everyone could fill out an online form in the official group of the Lyceum in VKontakte, and members of the Academic Council and heads of structural divisions of the university – in MS Forms. Opinions of the participants were divided: the results of round most votes were cast for the candidate N. V. Zabbarova, two online surveys were leading I. I. Vorovich and G. V. Voitkevich. In the final total result, almost a third of the votes (29 %) were given in favor of naming one of the classrooms of the SFedU Lyceum after the outstanding mechanic and mathematician Iosif Vorovich.

By the Days of Mathematics and Computer Science, which will complete a series of subject days at the Lyceum of the Southern Federal University this academic year, a project for the design of a named audience will be prepared.
