Mikhail Marakhovsky, an employee of the Institute for Advanced Technologies and Piezotechnics, told the audience about such an interesting and important process as spark plasma sintering. He explained what this process is, what its features are, in which areas of production it is used.

During the event, students could see how the equipment for the production of parts is set up, as well as what happens to the workpiece during the manufacturing process itself. Then Mikhail told how the finished parts are marked and checked.

The event was also attended by the deputy of the Rostov-on-Don City Duma of the seventh convocation Lidia Novoseltseva. She thanked the organizers and participants of the master class for their cooperation and wished them success.

Spark plasma sintering consists in the consolidation of a powder under the action of pulsed currents and discharge plasma formed under the action of a spark discharge between the powder particles. Such local temperature gradients greatly accelerate the atomic diffusion in the material, contributing to the rapid production of a high-density ceramic frame. The entire process of spark plasma sintering does not exceed 20-40 minutes, which is 30 times less than the time for obtaining ceramics using traditional technology.
