In 2016 the sports and recreation complex itself was opened on the campus of the SFedU "Southern Meridian", which houses two swimming pools, a gymnasium, a martial arts hall, a gym, a chess and checkers club. "Southern Meridian" is a multifunctional and comfortable complex that supports the trend for a healthy lifestyle and is accessible to everyone. 

The Southern Meridian is equipped with two pools of different parameters. One of them is large - 50 * 25 meters with a depth of 1.80 m to 2.05 m - divided into 10 swimming lanes, 2.5 meters wide. The pool itself is overflow, that is, it does not have sides, is equipped with rotary panels that serve to facilitate the turn of swimmers during competitions. The water temperature in this pool is usually constant and corresponds to 28 degrees C, the bypass path is 2.5 meters, the width of the launch raft is 6 meters.

The second pool is smaller. Its size is 6*10 meters with a depth of 0.8 m to 1.2 m. It is also overflow. The water temperature of this pool is slightly higher - 29 degrees C, the bypass path is 3 meters.

Technical component of the pool

A comfortable swimming pool is not only a recreation or sports area, but also the result of great efforts of specialists. For its full-fledged operation, a complex of specialized equipment is needed, which allows you to maintain the purity and optimal temperature of the water, its supply, illumination, and generally serviceable operation. The reliability and safety of operation of such a reservoir directly depends on how well the technical equipment of each of the systems is selected.

Southern Federal University offers such physical fitness and educational services for the population aged 3 to 85 + years, as: recreational swimming, aqua aerobics, synchronized swimming. However, for those who like to play sports on land, there are also options ; this is rhythmic gymnastics, judo, table tennis, as well as health-improving physical culture for diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

Competitions, like the pools themselves, have a classification. Different conditions are required for different levels of competition. So, during the period of work since the opening, competitions of the Southern Federal University, as well as municipal and regional levels were held in the sports and recreation complex.
