From June 3-6, St. Petersburg will host the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), one of the key events in the world of economics and business, which traditionally brings together leading experts, heads of major companies and representatives of the scientific community.
The forum will be attended by a delegation of the Southern Federal University headed by Rector Inna Shevchenko. SFedU representatives will also be involved in the business program of the forum and the events of the SPIEF Youth Days.
On June 4, two strategic agreements with the participation of the Southern Federal University will be signed at the forum.
The first agreement was with the Titan Group of Companies, the Government of the Rostov Region and the Government of the Omsk Region. The document is aimed at developing long-term cooperation between science, industry and the regions for the implementation of projects in the field of low-tonnage chemistry, new materials and chemical technologies. The priority area is the development of microfluidic technologies, where scientific research will be conducted on the basis of the Southern Federal University, and industrial development will be carried out at the facilities of the Titan Group in Omsk. The second agreement is with the Foundation for Advanced Research and the Government of the Rostov Region. The document provides for joint work on the search, selection and implementation of scientific and technical projects in the interests of national defense and security. The priority areas are the development of biohybrid systems for civil and special tasks, technologies for preventing biological emergencies, as well as the creation of promising pharmaceuticals.
On June 5, Inna Shevchenko will speak at three panel discussions organized by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. The first one will be devoted to the transformation of the Advanced Engineering Schools project. The rector of SFedU will share his experience in implementing this project, telling about the strategic guidelines for the development of the school, which has already reached self-sufficiency. The second discussion will be devoted to the role of student design bureaus in the training of engineering personnel and the introduction of university developments in the real sector of the economy. The third session, "Universities as drivers of technological sovereignty", will be devoted to the mechanisms of interaction between universities and business and the transformation of the educational model.
June 6, the last day of the forum, will also be eventful for the SFedU delegation. Two more landmark signings will take place at the forum site: an agreement with the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library will be aimed at implementing joint educational and scientific projects to preserve historical memory and an agreement with Rosmolodezh within the framework of the "More than Work" project of the Rosmolodezh "More than a Journey" program, which will open up to students and SFedU young scientists have new opportunities for professional internships and familiarization with the technological potential of the country's regions.
Also on June 6, as part of the SPIEF Youth Day 2026, one of the members of the SFedU delegation, Maria Zavadskaya — a leading specialist in the Department of Educational Work and Youth Programs of the SFedU, curator of the Student Scientific Society (SNC) and the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists (SMUS) SFedU, as well as a member of the Coordinating Council for Youth in the Scientific and Educational Fields of the Presidential Council for Science and Education, will act as the organizer and moderator of the key session of the Coordinating Council "The Relay Race of Generations: how to support young people in science and involve them in solving scientific and educational policy issues?". The event will be attended by Andrey Fursenko (Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation), Olga Petrova (Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation), Sofia Malyavina (Director General of ANO National Priorities), Stepan Kalmykov (Academician, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences), Nikita Marchenkov (Deputy Director of Science at the Kurchatov Institute) and other experts. The session participants will discuss measures to support young researchers, mechanisms for their involvement in the formation of scientific and educational policy and the continuity of generations in Russian science.
In addition, within the framework of the forum, members of the SFedU youth delegation are scheduled to meet with Nikita Marchenkov to discuss promising areas of cooperation, as well as a working trip to St. Petersburg State University to exchange experiences and strengthen academic ties.
