The RAEX rating agency has published a subject rating of the best Russian universities in 2026 in 35 areas. Southern Federal University has strengthened its position among the country's leading universities in several areas at once
According to the published rating, the university entered the top 10 strongest universities in the country in the field of biotechnology and bioengineering (10th place), aviation and rocket and space industry (8th place), ecology (10th place), teacher education (9th place), geography (9th place). In most of these areas, SFedU not only entered the top ten, but also significantly improved its performance last year, outstripping a number of major federal and research universities, including National Research Tomsk State University (TSU), Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), Siberian Federal University (SibFU) and Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University.
In addition, SFedU has made a significant leap in the direction of the "hospitality industry", rising from 10th place last year to 5th place. This is the university's best result in this field for the entire time of participation in the rating.
It is also worth noting that the Southern Federal University has become one of the leaders in terms of representation in the RAEX ratings. According to the agency's analysis, SFedU is present in 22 subject ratings out of 35 possible ones. This confirms SFedU's status as one of the most multidisciplinary and systemically important universities in Russia.
"The positive dynamics of SFedU in the RAEX subject ratings are not just numbers, but a reflection of the systematic work that is being carried out at the university to update educational programs. We see that our efforts to integrate science and education, as well as to revise the content of training to meet the real demands of the economy, are yielding results. It is especially valuable that SFedU is among the leaders in terms of the breadth of ratings coverage — this proves that we maintain a unique versatility for a research university, training in-demand specialists from humanities to aircraft manufacturers," said Pavel Makhno, Vice Rector for Education and Information Technology.
The RAEX rating evaluates three key parameters: the quality of student training, the level of research activity, the demand for graduates by employers, as well as the reputation of universities in the academic and professional environment. The high positions and positive dynamics of SFedU confirm the importance of the university in the training of highly qualified personnel and the development of modern educational practices.
