From dialects to neural networks: young researchers from federal universities discussed the use of digital technologies in linguistics and pedagogy at a round table in SFedU

12 марта 2026 г.

On March 10, the Institute of Philology, Journalism and Intercultural Communication of the SFedU hosted a round table of the Consortium for Scientific and Educational Cooperation in the Field of Applied Linguistics and Professional Pedagogy in the Context of Digitalization, Digital Practices in Linguistics and Education, dedicated to current research by young scientists of federal universities using digital technologies.

The event was organized by the Southern Federal University and the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov. The round table was held in a mixed format and brought together students, postgraduates, teachers and experts in the field of linguistics, pedagogy, artificial intelligence and digital technologies. Among the topics of the reports are digital platforms for dialects, phraseological unit analysis, Telegram channel support, machine translation and language visualization.

Anna Dmitrova, Director of the SFedU Institute of Philology, Journalism and Intercultural Communication, noted in her welcoming speech that digital technologies are blurring boundaries and expressed her joy for the young scientists who are the main characters of the event.

"Three years ago, on March 15, 2023, the first Round Table of Young Scientists from federal universities was held, which marked the beginning of a good annual tradition. The secret to the success of the event, which took place in SFedU this year, lies in a successful combination of several factors. First, it is the creation of a solid organizational foundation in the person of the association "Consortium for Scientific and Educational Cooperation in the field of Applied Linguistics and professional Pedagogy." Secondly, the use of digital technologies to overcome geographical barriers has played a key role. The mixed format (online and offline) made it possible to connect federal universities from Arkhangelsk to Simferopol and from Kaliningrad to Yakutsk. Finally, an urgent and diverse agenda has become an important factor. The topics of the reports, from the dialectology of Yakutia to the localization of video games using AI, demonstrated how the digital paradigm is transforming the humanities," said Marina Seregina, moderator of the meeting, Associate Professor of the Department of German Philology.

Alexander Polikarpov, Chairman of the Coordinating Council of the Digital Practices in Linguistics and Education Consortium, stressed that the participants showed a confident command of professional terminology, and their research was relevant and independent. He stressed that the digital practices presented are of applied importance and should contribute to the development of scientific industries and the creation of practical products.

The All-Russian competition of scientific reports was held as part of the round table. Anna Panova, Head of the Project Center for Support of Scientific and Innovative Activities, spoke about the specifics of the selection of participants this year:

"This year we tried out a new method for selecting speakers from the SFedU: not at will, but we reviewed the protocols of the best participants of the Science Week 2025 in the relevant sections. That is, we were initially chosen from among those who won our conference. I believe that our student scientific conference is held at a fairly high level, so winning the section is a good indicator."

The round table has become an important platform for discussing current scientific trends. The young researchers were able to present their work, receive comments from colleagues and experts, and outline possible areas for further cooperation.
