The final meeting of the group stage was an opportunity for the Panthers to secure at least second place in their group. In order to do so, they had to beat an opponent that had a good chance of qualifying and was in a good position - the Slovakians had neither a long and tiring journey behind them, nor a difficult game on the eve of the game.
Looking ahead, the Panthers had to fight both their opponents and their own fatigue in this match. And the game turned out to be quite interesting and rich in story twists and turns.
The Angels held the lead until midway through the first quarter, then came a small run by our team, followed by a Slovakian run back to push the score to 23-22 in our favour by the end of the period.
In the second period, the Peresvet-SFedU basketball players managed to create a scoring ground for themselves and go for a long break, leading with the score of 46:39.
In the second half, there was also plenty of time for both teams to hit their stride and change the lead. The Angels were catching up more often, and at one point the Panthers managed to pull ahead by nine points, 53-44. But the Slovakian players kept holding on and kept chasing. At the end of the third period the Angels tied the game, and early in the fourth period they even went ahead by 67-66. But the final segment followed Rostov's script, as the Panthers retained their lead, ending the game on their own, 78-72.
