International Week: cultural diplomacy live

Summer School of Southern Federal University is a 7-day programme that offers a great opportunity for International Office coordinators at universities, facilitators of international mobility at universities to improve their knowledge of cultural diplomacy via live meetings with different University academic communities, representatives of the Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, cultural ambassadors, and just hospitable people of Rostov-on-Don (Russia).

The International Week is dedicated to the topic “Cultural diplomacy live". Hence, we want you to meet professionals of intercultural contact-making and have live contact to the fundamentals of Russian ‘point of view through culture and education. During the International Week you will get the answers to the following questions:

What are specific Russian ways? You will be introduced to the basics of cultural diplomacy as an instrument of “soft power", fair cooperation AND an inexhaustible source of inspiring intercultural and interpersonal dialogue (national heritage, ethnography, literature, artistic projects, creative industries, festivals, education, literary translations, nation branding), as well as imagological approaches and concepts of intercultural dialogue from representatives of the Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Uni academics, and cultural ambassadors.

What is Southern Federal University? You will learn more about Institute of Philology, Journalism and Intercultural Communication and other Institutes of Southern Federal University (prospects of MA and PhD programs, research and academic cooperation, exchange programs, etc.)

How is it to live and study in South of Russia? You will get a live impression of the geographical and cultural landscape of the Don region (Rostov, Taganrog, etc.)

Programme details

20 hours of problem lectures from experts and professionals on the basics of cultural diplomacy (public diplomacy), as well as imagological approaches and concepts of intercultural dialogue;

3 hours of face-to-face meetings with mobility coordinators of Southern Federal University;

15 hours for trips to ethnographic and cultural sites in Taganrog (the birthplace of Chekhov) and Starocherkasskaya village; guided city walking tour, visits to local exhibitions;

3 hours of project sessions for small groups;

15 hours of crash course of Russian (optional).
