SFedU specialist on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey gave a lecture at St. Petersburg State University

On November 3, Veronika Tsybenko, Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Humanitarian Studies (CMGI) of the Southern Federal University, orientalist-Turkologist, Doctor of Historical Sciences, delivered a lecture "Anatomy of National Symbols of Turkey (for the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey)" at the Oriental Faculty of St. Petersburg State University (St. Petersburg State University).

During the lecture, the specialist spoke about the features, history and functions of Turkish national symbols. Using such examples as the conquest of Istanbul (the fall of Constantinople), the consolidation of the cult of the national leader, the concept of the sixteen great Turkish states and the mythical exodus of the ancient Turks from Altai, the internal mechanisms of the formation of national memory in Turkey were demonstrated and how the state overcomes the gap between the imperial and national images of its past and future for the consolidation of society, the elimination of existing there are no contradictions and the transformation of a unified Turkish nation into the main value for all citizens of the state.

The lecture was the completion of an extensive program of the SFedU CMGI for the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, in which Veronika Tsybenko:

- spoke at the plenary session of the All-Russian scientific conference "The Centenary of the Republic of Turkey: results and prospects" with the report "The Centenary of the formation of the paradigm of historical consciousness in the Republic of Turkey: the main actors and basic plots" (Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow) and at the Sixth International Scientific Congress of Social Sciences with the report "Mustafa Kemal Ataturk'ün Sembolik Politikası Çerçevesinde Değişen Kavramlar:Millî Sır Öneği"(Gazi University, Ankara Haji Bayram Veli University, Ankara);

- recorded a video podcast "Turkey: Why is it interesting?" as part of the "Conversations about the East" of the St. Petersburg State University Alumni Community;

- participated in the presentation of the collective monograph "Turkey's Foreign Policy during the rule of the Justice and Development Party (2002-2023). To the 100th anniversary of the Republic" (Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow);

- published profile articles in Russian and Turkish in the issues of magazines dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey - "Middle and Post–Soviet East" and "Route Education and Social Science Journal".

In addition, the SFedU CMGI, together with the Department of Russian Language and Literature of the University of Editepe and the representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Turkey, summed up the results of the International Contest "Song in the Intercultural Dialogue of Russia and Turkey" on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey.
