A professor from Kazakhstan gave a lecture at the mathematical seminar of the SFedU RSC

7 апреля 2023 г.

On April 6, Mark Lawrence Gordon, a professor at Nazarbayev University, Kazakhstan, delivered a lecture as part of a regular scientific seminar of the SFedU Regional Scientific-Educational Mathematical Centre. The leaders of the seminar are Professors Alexey Karapetyants and Vladislav Kravchenko.

Mark Lawrence – PhD, Professor of the School of Humanities and Natural Sciences, Department of Mathematics, Nazarbayev University, Kazakhstan. He received his PhD from the University of Washington in 1991. Since 2011, he has been working at Nazarbayev University. His research interests include the theory of functions of several complex variables with a focus on problems of polynomial convexity and polynomial shells, analytic continuations and related topics. He proved the first boundary version of the 100-year-old Hartogs theorem on analyticity, published in 2007; Last year, a more general theorem was proved, the manuscript is available in the arXiv preprint database.

On April 6, Professor Lawrence gave a lecture on "Partially holomorphic functions of several variables" at the seminar of the RSEMC SFedU. A function is called partially holomorphic if it is holomorphic on slices in one affine direction, and in one or more other affine directions satisfies the conditions of the moment of holomorphism. On a ball, any polynomial from z, w,|w| can serve as an example. Any such function is holomorphic in z, and on slices where z is constant, it extends holomorphically from any circle centered at zero. Professor Lawrence paid special attention to partially holomorphic functions on a sphere - they arise naturally when considering functions on a sphere that have holomorphic continuations in several affine directions. Mark Lawrence showed that partially holomorphic functions on a ball must be real analytic for a sufficient number of directions.

The seminar "Seminar on Analysis, Differential Equations and Mathematical Physics" was attended by more than thirty mathematicians - specialists from leading scientific and educational centers of the world in Russia and other countries, including graduate students and students of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of the SFedU and young scientists.

Online scientific seminar of the Regional Scientific and Educational Mathematical Center (https://rmc.sfedu.ru /) is held regularly every two weeks, announcements of new seminars and videos of previous seminars are available on the website http://msrn.sfedu.ru/sl .  The seminar is attended by leading researchers from around the world whose research interests are related to analysis, differential equations and mathematical physics. The scientific seminar of the mathematical center is open, everyone can take part in it.

The language of the seminar is English.
