Southern Federal University has become one of the ten leading universities in Russia in terms of the number of research projects implemented with the support of the Russian Science Foundation (RNF) in 2025. The results of the Foundation's activities were presented on April 29 at a press conference in TASS dedicated to the results of fundamental and applied research by leading Russian scientists - grant recipients of the Russian National Science Foundation.
In 2025, with the support of the Russian Science Foundation, almost 9,000 scientific projects were implemented on the basis of organizations and universities from 80 regions of Russia. Every fifth scientific and educational organization in the country is involved in projects funded by the Foundation. The research results have been presented in more than 32,000 scientific publications, and over 62,000 scientific news have been published in the media.
The leaders in the number of supported projects include Lomonosov Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, UrFU, MIPT, HSE, as well as Southern Federal University and other leading universities in the country.
"RNF contests are in demand in the scientific community. In 2025, over 18,000 applications were received for 36 contests. According to the results of the examination, more than 3.5 thousand projects carried out in organizations of 79 subjects of the Russian Federation were selected for financing. Traditional contests for the Foundation are being maintained and new contests are being launched, focused more on supporting exploratory and practical research," said Vladimir Bespalov, Director General of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.
According to representatives of the Foundation, fundamental and exploratory research, applied science and projects of young scientists remain the key areas of support. In accordance with the Russian Science Foundation's Development Strategy until 2030, special attention is paid to research focused on solving practical problems and developing technological partnerships.
For SFedU, becoming one of the leaders of the Russian Science Foundation confirms the high level of scientific research at the university, the effectiveness of research teams and the significant contribution of scientists to the development of priority areas of Russian science.
It should be noted that Anton Plyonkin, head of the ICTIS project office, Director of the Indian-Russian Scientific Center of the Southern Federal University, is an expert of the Russian Science Foundation.
The Russian Science Foundation remains one of the key institutions supporting Russian science. The priority areas of the RPF's activities are support for fundamental and exploratory research, applied scientific developments and young scientists.
