On May 14, the Volga Institute of Economics, Pedagogy and Law (VIEPL) hosted a scientific and practical conference "Education for Sustainable Development: Resources, Technology, Security" as part of the regional events of IAF2026. The organizers were the Southern Federal University and the VIEPL.

The event was held in a mixed format – face-to-face and using a Yandex bridge. The conference was attended by representatives of the Southern Federal University, Volgograd State University, Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, Belorussian Russian University (Republic of Belarus), Don State Technical University, as well as researchers and teachers from the Volga Institute of Economics, Pedagogy and Law.

Marina Borovskaya, President of the Southern Federal University, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, spoke on behalf of the Southern Federal University. In a joint report with Anton Afanasyev, a leading researcher at SFedU, Candidate of Economics, she presented the topic "Education development strategy in the context of regional and spatial planning."

Marina Borovskaya stressed that education for sustainable development is impossible without being linked to spatial and regional planning strategies.

"Universities today act not just as training centers, but as key actors in the development of territories. We must build an educational policy based on the real economic, social and environmental landscapes of the regions, otherwise we risk training specialists in isolation from the demands of the economy," said Marina Borovskaya.
