SFedU students and staff took part in the Blooming Garden clean-up

1 мая 2026 г.

On April 25, the SFedU Botanical Garden became the site of a large-scale event that combined three events at once: the Ecopeneration Ecology and Creativity Festival, the Student Family regional festival and the Blooming Garden clean-up day. About 50 students from the fields of Geography, Hydrometeorology, Ecology and Nature Management and the Applied Geology specialty of the Institute of Earth Sciences took part in the action.

By personal example, the campaign was supported by Natalia Barannikova, Deputy Director for the Popularization of Earth Sciences, Work with applicants and the implementation of youth programs, Alexey Mentorkin, Head of the Department of Mineral Deposits, Vyacheslav Savitsky, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Physical Geography, Ecology and Nature Conservation, Konstantin Matetsky, Lecturer at the Department of Mineral Deposits, Georgy Shekhurdin, teachers at the Department of Geoecology and Applied Geochemistry, and Roman Komarov, graduate student of the Department of Oceanology Anna Parfenova.

The clean-up day became a real test of strength for the students of the Institute of Earth Sciences - especially when it came to cleaning the spring and its steep slopes. Over the winter, real "deposits" of garbage formed here: plastic bottles and bags clung to bushes, tin cans and glass fragments hid in last year's foliage, and dry branches blocked the approaches to the source. The guys armed themselves with gloves and trash bags and got down to business: some carefully cleared the area around the spring itself so as not to damage the vegetation; others went down steep slopes, carefully collecting garbage and passing it up; others sorted the waste right on the spot. A few hours later, the slope was transformed: instead of a cluttered area, there was a clean shore, clear spring water and fresh spring air. The students didn't just clean up the trash - they helped restore the natural corner to its natural beauty.

The event made it possible not only to improve the appearance of this specially protected natural area, surrounded on all sides by urban buildings and experiencing serious anthropogenic impact, but also to contribute to the conservation of its ecosystems. The clean-up day "Blooming Garden" clearly demonstrated that cleaning the territory can be an important tool for environmental education and upbringing.
