20 ноября 2025 г.

On November 17, the SFedU Coordination Center for the formation of active citizenship among young people, the prevention of interethnic and interfaith conflicts, countering the ideology of terrorism and the prevention of extremism organized the participation of students in a teleconference.

During a video conference session, the students met with Chilean journalist, writer and political scientist Patricio Mary Bell, who wrote the book "Children of Donbass", a journalistic investigation about the fate of the Russian-speaking population in the conditions of hostilities and shelling.

Along with Patricio, Ekaterina Kolotovkina, a member of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, head of the Committee of Families of Soldiers of the Fatherland of the Samara Region, General Director of the Zvezda and Lyra Public Cultural and Social Foundation, and Tatiana Pototskaya, Deputy director of the Samara 450 Media Agency, took part in the conversation.

Patricio Mary Bell greeted the participants, told about himself, about his visit to Donetsk and about the impressions that will always remain with him, after which the students were able to ask questions.

Anastasia Popivnenko, a graduate student at the International Institute of Interdisciplinary Education and Ibero-American Studies at SFedU, asked the Chilean writer and journalist questions in Spanish: "Do you think that art (especially literature) is it able to convey the truth and the horror of war more accurately than news reports?" and Angelina Shalimova: "Working on such complex topics as war, how do you balance the professional objectivity of a journalist and the inevitable human sympathy for the victims?"

The teleconference turned out to be a rich, emotional and honest conversation.
