SFedU scientists, in collaboration with the Springer Publishing House team and the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, held a number of joint events on October 9-10, 2025 in the Presidium Hall of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, including an editorial board meeting, a round table on AI and a scientific seminar.
On October 9, 2025, the third open meeting of the expanded editorial board of the leading international publication in the field of mathematical sciences, the Journal of Mathematical Sciences, was held (editor—in-chief - A.N. Karapetyants).
The event was attended by representatives of the Springer Nature publishing house, including Vice President Alexander Biryukov, Editor-in-chief of the journal Alexey Karapetyants, publisher Tatiana Golea, as well as President of the Georgian Mathematical Society Alexander Meskhi.
The program of the meeting included reports on the journal's development strategy, the annual report, issues of scientific ethics, and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in scientific peer review and publication promotion. Particular attention was paid to Springer Nature's experience in integrating AI into scientific editing processes and ensuring research integrity.
On October 10, a round table was held there on the practical aspects of using AI in the peer review system, during which participants discussed the experience of Springer Nature and other publishers in introducing artificial intelligence into the peer review process of scientific publications. The round table was moderated by Alexey Karapetyants and Alexander Biryukov. As part of the round table, Alexander Biryukov (Vice President of Springer Nature) made a presentation on "Problematic context: increasing the volume of publications and Springer Nature's measures to prevent overloading of articles", followed by Spyros Bakas, Senior Editor for innovative content at Springer Nature, presented a pilot project on expert assessment using AI; Flaminio Squazzoni, Department of University of Social and Political Sciences of Milan, presented the project "Using AI tools to evaluate peer-reviewed content"; Francesco Osborn and Angelo Salatino from the Open University Institute for Media Studies discussed the peer review of AI grants.
In conclusion, a joint scientific seminar was held under the leadership of A.N. Karapetyants and A. Meskhi, in which scientists from China, Israel, Norway, Armenia and Georgia presented new results in the field of analysis, mapping theory and mathematical physics.
