On July 11, a lecture by Sergey Germanovich Bobkov, a professor at the University of Minnesota, the USA, was held as part of the regular scientific seminar of the RSEMC SFedU. The seminar was led by Professors A.N. Karapetyants and V.V. Kravchenko.
Sergey Germanovich Bobkov is a Doctor of Ph.D., Professor at the University of Minnesota, the USA. From 1995 to 1996, he was a fellow at the University of Bielefeld, Germany. He spent the summers of 2001 and 2002 as an EPSRC Fellow at Imperial College London, the UK. He was awarded the Simons Scholarship (American Private Foundation) in 2012 and the Humboldt Prize (an award given by the German Alexander von Humboldt Foundation to foreign scientists; The award provides an opportunity for highly qualified researchers from different countries to engage in scientific projects of their choice in collaboration with German scientists) in 2014. Sergey Germanovich is known for his research in mathematics on the boundary of probability theory, analysis, convex geometry and information theory. He obtained important results on isoperimetric problems, concentration measures, and so on. Bobkov's inequality, a functional isoperimetric inequality for the canonical Gauss measure in probability theory, is named after him.
On October 31, Professor Bobkov gave a lecture at the seminar of the RSEMC of the Southern Federal University on clarifying the Berry-Esseen inequalities in terms of Lyapunov coefficients. He obtained some variants of the Berry-Esseen inequality, which can be applied further to the normal approximation.
The seminar "Seminar on Analysis, Differential Equations and Mathematical Physics" was attended by more than thirty mathematicians - specialists from leading scientific and educational centers of the world in Russia and other countries, including graduate students and students of the Institute of Mathematics, Mechanics and Computer Science of the Southern Federal University and young scientists.
Online scientific seminar of the Regional Scientific and Educational Mathematical Center (https://rmc.sfedu.ru /) it is held regularly every two weeks, announcements of new seminars and videos of previous seminars are available on the website http://msrn.sfedu.ru/sl . The seminar is attended by leading researchers from around the world whose research interests are related to analysis, differential equations and mathematical physics. The scientific seminar of the mathematical center is open, and everyone can take part in it.
