Over the years of its existence, the SFedU Student Council has implemented and continues to develop many projects. So in 2020, Rostov region Student football League and SFedU "Media Studio" (three-day intensive educational in the sphere of mass media) became winners the all-Russian competition-monitoring best practices of educational work with students.

The most popular projects for students-activists include SFedU Schools of student associations – School of volunteers, School of the Presidium, School of mentoring and more. Thanks to these educational events, children receive both basic training in the field of self-government, and expand their "soft skills" in specific areas. The School of Student Self-Government as the final and main project of the Joint Council of Students of SFedU is the most professional and difficult to participate in, but the number of people who want to take part in it is growing every year.

Thanks to the Student Council, the Southern Federal University has been operating a Personal Rating system for students since 2014. The student's participation in the social, scientific, sports or cultural life of the University is evaluated and reflected in the student's personal account. In the future, thanks to the rating, the student can apply for an increased state academic scholarship, relocation to a higher-comfort campus, as well as transfer from paid to free education.

"More and more students are actively involved in extracurricular activities, find their leisure time in the activities of the Student Council. Our system does not stand still, we are constantly changing and transforming, based on the wishes of students and the existing federal and regional agenda. Over the past year, we have been able to find new formats of interaction in the context of the pandemic. In particular, the Joint Council of Students has transferred all educational activities to a distance format. One of the most striking examples is the project "Let's see at Home", in which every day during the period of self-isolation, students were offered educational content in the field of event management, cultural and creative sphere, working with the media, and much more. Also, a Modular School of Student Self-Government was held, within the framework of which the most interesting topics for students were covered in an online format: "Leadership", "Conflict Management", "Stress Tolerance", "Teamwork" and others. Recordings of all the experts ' speeches, as well as additional methodological materials on the topics are available to students in the electronic educational environment of the University," said Valery Levshin, Chairman of the Joint Council of Students of the SFedU.

In 2020 the Council on improving the quality of education SFedU won the Russian national award "student of the year 2020" in the nomination "the Commission on the quality of education year," Student Council of the Institute for Sociology and Regional Studies of Southern Federal University was recognized as the best student Council school divisions of educational organizations of higher education in Russia, and Historical-Patriotic center of Southern Federal University in the same competition took 2nd place in the nomination "the best system of civil and interethnic cooperation." At the regional level, the Volunteer center of Southern Federal University was the best of the volunteer Association of the year and the Student Council President of the SFedU President of the student Council educational organizations of higher education of year. Our practices have won the All-Russian Monitoring Competition, and the SFedU Student Sports Club has won the Association of Student Sports Clubs Festival of Russian Student Sports.
