24.04.2021

Andrey Tereshchenko, a post-graduate student of the Smart Materials Research Institute of the Southern Federal University, became one of the winners of the 2021 Haldor Topsoe grant competition.

For 25 years, the Danish company Haldor Topsoe, a world leader in the field of catalysis, has been organizing a scholarship competition for young scientists conducting research in the field of heterogeneous catalysis. The winners of the competition are determined by an international jury, which includes scientists who have received international recognition.

Andrey Tereshchenko with a project in the field of development of diagnostic methods for heterogeneous catalysts based on noble metal nanoparticles was awarded a special award "For excellent proposal prize" and a reward of 500 euros. Andrey conducts his research within the framework of the RFBR grant No. 20-32-90048 "Method of laboratory operando diagnostics of metal nanoparticles based on infrared spectroscopy of adsorbed molecules". As part of the project, with the support of the research team of the Smart Materials Research Institute, Andrey managed to apply machine learning algorithms to the estimation of nanoparticle sizes, which made it possible to accurately analyze nanoparticles taking into account the impact of various external and internal factors.

Every year since 2016, graduate students of the Southern Federal University have become winners and prize-winners of the Haldor Topsoe international grant competition. Aram Bugaev, Ilya Pankin, Oleg Usoltsev, and Alina Skorynina, postgraduates of the Smart Materials Research Institute of the Southern Federal University, also became fellows and prize-winners of the program. The victory in such a prestigious competition is another confirmation of the high international level of training of future specialists - young scientists and research work conducted within the walls of SFedU.
