31.03.2021

On March 28, the Institute of Mathematics, Mechanics and Computer Science in the name of I. I. Vorovich hosted the grand opening of the Virtual and Augmented Reality Laboratory (VR/AR LAB) as part of the open day.

It was created as part of the MAGnUS (Erasmus+) project "Developing Master Programs in Mobile Applications and Game Design at Partner Universities" 598342-EPP-1-2018-1-SEPPKA2-CBHE-JP / MAGnUS, which is funded with the support of the European Commission.

The opening ceremony was attended by the director of the Institute Mikhail Karyakin, the head of the Master's program Yana Demyanenko, the head of the laboratory Ilya Loshkarev, teachers and students of the Institute, as well as guests of the Open Day.

The laboratory was created to support the master's program "Development of mobile applications and computer games" and is intended both for conducting classes with students, and for performing educational and research high-tech projects.

The laboratory is equipped with modern equipment: Dell Precision 3640 workstations (Tower/i7-10700/2X8GB DDR4 2933MHz/RTX 2060 Super/512GB NVMe M).2 SSD / 1TB 7200rpm SATA/KB, mouse/Win10 Home); Dell P2720D, EME displays; HTC Vive Pro Full Kit virtual reality helmets and HP Reverb VR3000 G2 Headset.

The laboratory is designed to conduct classes with students, in particular the following disciplines: Computer graphics, Machine learning, Computer vision, GPU Programming, AR technologies in mobile applications, VR technologies in games, Artificial intelligence, as well as to perform research work with students. This will allow us to train specialists in the field of digital technologies, including them in the project activities of the laboratory, as well as to explore the possibilities of using modern virtual and augmented reality technologies.

One of the main tasks of the laboratory is to develop high-tech products (applications and services) in a wide range of subject areas – from innovative education to the interactive entertainment industry, along with education, immersive technologies (virtual and augmented reality VR/AR) and products created with the help of digital tools will be used for scientific and industrial purposes.
