Program Overview:
The purpose of the postgraduate program is: 1) training of highly qualified scientific personnel; 2) preparation of a dissertation by a graduate student.
Upon admission to the program, it is welcome to contact the department to choose the direction of dissertation research and discuss with a potential supervisor the direction of future research. Areas of scientific research:
- The history of the cognitive approach in philosophy, humanities and natural sciences. Philosophical and scientific aspects of cognitive research. The concept of convergence of science and technology. The place of mentalism and physicalism in the modern scientific picture of the world.
- Empirical study and quantitative description of threshold parameters of cognitive processes in humans: speed and accuracy of perception, attention, indicators of various types of memory, understanding, situational awareness, psychometric intelligence and reflexive reasoning.
- Cognitive interactions. Interaction within individual sensory modalities and cognitive processes in general. The importance and interdisciplinary research of such interactions in the study of human sensory-perceptual and cognitive organization.
- Development of a methodology for managing the environment of cognitive processes. Experimental and applied research of cognitive processes using virtual and mixed reality variants (augmented reality and augmented virtuality).
- Methods of studying the behavior and features of cognitive processes in human interaction with the modern man-made environment. Cognitive ergonomics and cognitive engineering systems. Human factor engineering.
- Psychological studies of communication: from early childhood to old age, in particular, in conditions of using the Internet and modern software systems. The impact of digitalization and artificial intelligence on cognitive processes. Control of the effects of digitalization and automation in everyday life, industry and transport.
- Cross-cutting cognitive processes ; memory, attention and consciousness. Their implicit and explicit components. Cognitive control of behavior and cognition. Decision-making and the possibility of changing it with the help of ergonomic and environmental design of the environment.
- The impact of learning strategies on the organization of knowledge. Representation of concepts and general semantic categories. Categorical changes in human knowledge and metacognitive beliefs. Phenomenology and cognitive mechanisms of creativity in science and technology.
- Motivational and emotional sphere. The role of motives and emotions in the regulation and discoordination of cognitive processes. Cognitive theories of emotions and specificity affects. Cognitive-affective science. The motivating and demotivating role of metacognition.
