How do young scientists of the Southern Federal University see the future

27.02.2024

A workshop for young scientists of the Southern Federal University "Frontiers of the Future" was held at the Boiling Point of the Southern Federal University within the framework of the "Challenge" project implemented by the federal Russian TV channel TNT.

The Challenge project offers new formats of events, seminars, television shows, provides intellectual youth of the country with access to media resources, promotes the popularization of their scientific and practical projects in the information space, helps to develop creative ideas, create new connections. Young scientists and students of SFedU are positive, optimistic and see prospects in their scientific fields and projects, in their hard and difficult work. At the workshop, which was held with the support of Gazprombank JSC, the participants reflected on how important it is to be able to share their worldviews and images of the future, convey their values and point of view to different audiences and be understood using various communication formats.

Alexandra Bobretsova, representative of the President of the Union of Designers of Russia, head of the Intellectual Russia project, expert in the field of communication design, told the young researchers of the Southern Federal University how to comprehend their ideas about the future, form a position on the topic, and then turn it into a simple, functional, at the same time imaginative, aesthetic and memorable speech.

Southern Federal University has been an active participant in the movement of new event formats for more than ten years, which hosts a series of scientific stand-ups "100 minutes of Science" and the annual big intellectual battle "Science Slam", which precedes the current Science Festival of the South of Russia. New genres like the American intellectual stand-up TEDx, the German science battle "Science Slam", European evening lectures by scientists in Science Bar Hopping bars, etc. came to Russia in the second half of the 2000s. within the framework of a large global trend. Today, almost every major Russian city has its own organizers of intellectual events, lectures, and debates, from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka and Vladivostok. It is important for the urban community and active social groups to be in dialogue and expand their worldviews. It is especially important for Russia to think about space and the universe, the world and people, and the meanings of life. Make sense of these things through your own formats. University scientists of the Southern Federal University can and should "go out into the city" more often and tell the format "just about the complex" about technology, everyday life, the space of the city and the citizens themselves.

Among the participants of the seminar were representatives of those sciences that we can attribute to biotech - the essence of the sixth and seventh technological order – biologists, chemists, physicists who are interested in the structure of bonds in materials, directed action in substances, something that has excited the imagination of people since the Middle Ages. The "humanitarian half" of the workshop was represented by architects, environmental designers and teachers. The vision of the future from young scientists, demonstrated in the format of vivid presentations, based on scientific knowledge, thoughtful and reasoned, can have more power than gossip, blockbusters and melodramas, because this future sees the everyday life of a citizen, SFedU and Rostov-on-Don. And this is intriguing.  It is obvious that the results of the workshop, framed in speeches, can become an interesting event for a wide audience of active citizens of Rostov.

Vasily Chokheli, head of the scientific youth laboratory "Molecular Biotechnology of Plants" of the SFedU Academy of Biology and Biotechnologies, stressed that the genre of scientific stand-up helps researchers not only to convey the meaning of their research to their fellow countrymen and fellow citizens, but also to rethink for themselves.

SFedU scientists will be able to present their pictures of the world of the future at the Challenge Forum in Moscow in the spring of 2024, which will allow spreading the ideas of the scientific schools of the Southern Federal University, developments and potential to a wide audience.  Well, the cities of the university - Rostov-on-Don and Taganrog – remain the centers of university life, where various epochs, peoples, values are successfully intertwined in culture, architecture, urban design, culture of everyday life, remain our home, which deserves a decent picture of the future and scientists who are in love with their people and history, and create a bright future the future.
