11.10.2021

Teachers of the Institute of History and International Relations take part in the autumn scientific school of the University of Warsaw.

From September 30 to October 15, the Autumn School "Studying Elites: Case Studies and Methods", organized by the University of Warsaw, takes place in an online format. The program is designed for young researchers who are interested in sociological approaches in the study of elites. From the Southern Federal University, young teachers and students participate in the program: Nikita Bulavintsev, Andrey Gross, Natalia Lagoshina, Arseniy Lepkov, Anastasia Zaitseva, Daria Mamina.

The purpose of the autumn online school is to introduce the participants to the theoretical and methodological apparatus used in sociology to study the problem of elites and to present to the audience recent studies related to the study of cultural, economic and political elites in Poland and Eastern Europe. The focus of many presentations is the study of the academic environment and the intelligentsia as a special social group and a "moral community" in Durkheim's terminology. Among the speakers are such well-known researchers and sociologists as Tomas Zarytsky, Michal Luchevsky, Rafal Smochinsky and others.  The school's program consists of two parts. The first part includes a presentation and discussion of recent and current elite studies. Scientists conducting seminars based on their empirical research introduce students to various theoretical and methodological approaches, but special attention is paid to the methodological legacy of Pierre Bourdieu. The second part includes practical seminars aimed at familiarization with fundamental research methods.
