Dystopia: Fiction or Forcasting?

On April 12 SFedU students-scholars of the Oxford Russian Fund are invited to the seminar "Dystopia: Fiction or Forcasting?"

During the seminar the following lectures are provided:

 

Utopia/Dystopia: Problems and Definitions;

The Literary Dystopia 1792-1948;

Postcapitalist utopias and media;

Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four;

Dystopia Today: 1950-2017.

 

Lectures will be delivered by:

Gregory Claeys, Professor of Royal Holloway, London University. Author of monographs: Machinery, Money and the Millennium: From Moral Economy to Socialism (Princeton University Press, 1987), Citizens and Saints: Politics and Anti-Politics in Early British Socialism (Cambridge University Press, 1989), Thomas Paine: Social and Political Thought (Unwin Hyman, 1989); The French Revolution Debate in Britain (Palgrave Macmillan, 2007), Imperial Sceptics: British Critics of Empire, 1850-1920 (Cambridge University Press, 2010), Mill and Paternalism (Cambridge University Press, 2013).
