The Institute of Economics and International Economic Relations (IECIER) was set up in 2001 to provide education in high-priority areas of economics and management. At the moment the total student enrolment at the  IECIER of SFedU, is over 4000.

The Institute is a member of European Council for Business Education (ECBE), which coordinates educational processes and disseminates modern technologies of business education.

Institute is a corporate member of The Institute of Professional Accountants of Russia (IPAR), Chamber of Tax Consultants of Russia, The Russian Association of Business Education (RABE) which is an undisputed leader, pioneer and coordinator of programs focused on training in the areas of  private enterprise and business.

The institute of economics and foreign economic relations was set up in 2001. it offers a 32-months programme leading to a university degree (for holders of university degree in arts and science) in the following majors: world economy, accounting, analysis and auditing, finance and credit, anti-crisis management, economy theory, mathematical methods in economy. For Bachelors of economics this program covers 18 months. The institute also offers programmes for holders of vocational diplomas and finance (3 year full-time course and 42-month correspondence course). By the end of the programme students are supposed to be highly qualified managers-practitioner with up-to-date knowledge and skills that are necessary for efficient organization management. Graduates may work in business and finance institutions, banks, industry and commerce, administrative agencies, foreign trade agencies.

The Institute of Economics and International Economic Relations is proud of the fact that it offers MBA and pre-MBA programs which are in compliance with international standards.
