Independent Russian-German Institute of Journalism

In December 2002, the Independent Russian-German Institute of Journalism branched out from the Faculty of Filology and Journalism.

Among the Institute’s founders are a number of German and Russian companies, NGOs and foundations, such as the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung GMBH, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and a range of others. The Russian-German Institute is headed by two people: Professor Verner D’Inka, representing the German party, and Associate Professor Alla Bespalova, representing the Russian party.

The Institute provides students of different universities (not only sFedU) with an opportunity to study journalism, as well as to practise the German language under the supervision of visiting professors from Germany. A number of unusual creative workshops and seminars are regularly held at the Institute. Moreover, students may be provided with an opportunity to undertake internship working in number of newspapers in Germany and Russia.

The Independent Russian-German Institute of Journalism has two co-directors,  on the Russian side and on the German side. When the Institute was founded, its co-directors were Prof. E.A. Kornilov and Dr. Werner D’Inka, Editor-in-Chief of Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

Currently, the co-directors are Associate Prof. A.G. Bespalova (since 2004) and Prof. Wolfgang Mühl-Benninghaus (since 2012).
